'Ostara is March 20th and is the Sabbat of the Vernal (Spring) Equinox, when the Earth has recovered from winter and is in full bloom...Ostara is a festival celebrating fertility and birth when Mother Earth bears two sets of holy twins:  the Green Man and Maiden, and the Red Man and Maiden, representing the plants and animals...Ostara is a time of new beginnings and planting spells for future harvest...Celebrate the first day of spring by breaking the dead bonds of winter...During the week before, you should take stock of any outstanding bad feelings or arguments you may have with your family and friends...Write these down on a piece of paper, and seek to settle these with apologies, or whatever you need to do to restore the balance...At Ostara, having balanced your karma, you should burn the paper to wipe clean your karmic slate...Blessed Be

IMBOLC

 

Now is the time for the banishing of Winter...On the first night of February, the eve of Imbolc, gather all of the greens that adorned your house throughout the Yuletide season...Then as a part of the Imbolc sabbat rite, add these greens to the Sabbat Fire, dancing and chanting all the while with words like: 'Now we banish Winter! Now we welcome Spring!'...This is the time to develop those nonphysical skills so necessary to the working of magick...These include prophecy, clairvoyance (including clairaudience, clairsentience, etc.), psychometry, telepathy, and psychokinesis..The common thread that connects all of these is the opening up of psychic channels that enable us to perceive the flow of subtle information we are constantly receiving but are seldom aware of...The first of these skills, prophecy, is the art of foretelling the future...Though it is not necessary to perform these rituals of prophecy within a Circle, it is important to create an atmosphere hospitable to them...It might be helpful, to purify the area you will be doing your reading in by performing a simple banishing ritual...

It is at Imbolc when we are halfway between winter solstice and spring equinox that the days become longer...The word Imbolc/Imbolg is derived from an ancient word meaning "ewe's milk."...The powerful Goddess Brigid presides over Imbolc...In addition to fire, she is the goddess of holy wells and springs, crossroads (divination), and is a midwife (transformer)...As midwife, she helps to "birth" the new year/growing light...She also helps us divine the path we need to follow for self-transformation...Imbolc is a time of purification and clearing out old things from our lives...(You might take note that at this time we are in the middle of a Mercury retrograde, so its doubly important to clear out t hings that don't serve us anymore!)....Its time to shed the past and move forward with hope...Blessed Be

 

 

OCTOBER NEWSLETTER

Merry Meet!...Samhain marks the transition from the light half of the year to the dark...Now is the time that the Lady, the fruitful Mother, has been delivered of her child, the fruits of the Earth...The harvest has been completed...She steps aside as the Horned One steps forward...Now is the time that our focus shifts from the physical side of life to the spiritual, for at this time of transition the veil is very thin between the two worlds...At this time of year the abundance of fruit and vegetables begins to slow...It is a time when our ancient ancestors gathered what they could store and then supplemented their Winter diets either by hunting wild animals or by slaughtering domestic ones...So this lunar month is called the Blood Moon...As you cast the Esbat Circle on this moonlit Autumn night and fill the cup with blood-red wine, know that you will be joined in the sacred dance not only by the unseen presence of departed friends and family so close at this time of year, but also by the spirits of animals as well, perhaps of those that have died so that we may have food...In this age of assembly line slaughterhauses and meatpacking plants, it is especially appropriate that on this night of the Blood Moon we who are on the Pagan path ritually ask the understanding of our animal sisters and brothers, bless them, and bid them merry meet, merry part, and merry meet again...

Samhain is a celebration of death, and as such t is marked by several traditions...One of these is the Feast of the Dead, or the Dumb Supper as it is sometimes called...This has many variations--from a complete meal shared by the living, with places set at the table for the dead, to the simple leaving of cakes and wine, or any similar combination, by the fireside on Samhain Nigjht...And this is the most traditional time for communication with the dead...For this reason, after welcoming them into our Samhin Circle through the Western Gate, the direction of death, you can allow the spirits of the deceased to communicate with you if they so desire...One method is the wineglass...

Similar to the ouija board but without the undeserved sinister reputation, the wineglass is just that, an inverted wineglass( the champagne type is better than the white wine type, as it is less likely to tip)...The glass is surrounded by a circle of letters...An alphabet in Gothic style drawn on squares of white paper help to create an appropriate atmosphere...The wineglass has several built-in safety devices...It cannot easily be operated alone, so spiritual possession is less likely and since two or more people are operating it, self-delusion is not so easy...The wineglass can be used within the Samhin Crcle...The four quarters of the Circle may be marked with candles in jack-o'-lanterns, and an extra candle, an indigo blue one (the color symbolizing the higher spiritual planes), should also be lit...This candle might be anointed with oil and marked with a rune that describes the travel between the planes...After a moment of meditation each person present places a fingertip on the upturned base of the wineglass and the traditional "Is anyone here that wishes to give us a message?" is asked...Then as the glass slides from one letter to the next, rapidly spelling out messages, read the words...You may find it easier to use a tape recorder because it can get confusing...At this, the most solemn of Pagen festivals, the messages are often personal and profound...

Among the Halloween costumes--there is the inevitable Witch, really the Goddess herself, in her aspect as the Crone, her tall, pointed hat actually a form of dunce cap that uses "pyramid power."...The Witch, or Crone, drew power through the pointed top and sent it out to do her bidding via the flared brim...Her black dress reminds us that the Goddess has her dark (but not evil) side too, and her broomstick is her shaman's horse upon which she rides over the Moon to other planes and realms...

Masks can be made to represent the God and Goddess, and can be worn by Priest and Priestess when the Gods are invoked...Or masks might be made to represent the three aspects of the Goddess--the Maid, the Mother, and the Crone--so that the Priestess can choose one should the Goddess speak through her...Or likewise, the priest might choose a mask that represents the God in his aspect of death or of rebirth, should the God wish to speak through him...Masks can also be made to represent the spirits of Nature...They don't even have to be worn but just hung at various points about the perimeter of the Samhain Circle, where they can become animated by the flickering lights of the candles one moment and disappear into the shadows the next...Or a mask can be passed around thye Circle to be tried on by any member of the group...But whether they are worn or not, masks serve as reminders that we are always surrounded by the realms of the spirits and the Gods themselves, and on this night more than any other, they are very close............Blessed Be

 

 

DECEMBER 22:  WINTER SOLSTICE YULE Minor Sabbat...The rebirth of the God...The pledge of the returning sun...The shortest day of the year...Fire festival includes the Yule log...The colors of this festival are red and green...The beginning of the death of winter...Time for rest to nearing the end...Time of enlightenment...Awakenment of life...Another star is added to the sky...Time to increase intelligence...Burning the Yule log symbolizes peace and protection in the home...Ashes from the Yule log are placed at the base of fruit trees to assure fruitfulness...Keep a small piece of the Yule log in the home to promote peace throughout the year...Bayberry is used in rituals to promote wealth and prosperity...Wreaths of holly and ivy are made for protection...Kiss under the mistletoe for luck and love...Gifts of corn and other grains placed around trees for the wildlife promotes love and bounty within the home...Giving gifts promotes harmony of the heart...

THE FOLLOWING IS AN ANCIENT SOLITARY RITUAL FOR YULE: This rite should be performed late on the Eve of Yule, December 24th...The robe, gown or other apparel worn  for this ceremony should be unique and "magickal" in its cut and feel...The Yule Tree, fully trimmed and decorated, should be placed five to eight feet to the east of the altar...The altar is set as usual and two seasonal candles are placed on the altar...Many decorations and colored lights should be placed about the ritual area;  these are to be lit once the ritual has begun...A small bit of incense...frankincense, should be wrapped as a gift of the season and placed on the altar...Some food, should be set next to the altar...Set up the ritual area in advance, then retire to bathe before dressing for this rite, fixing in your mind that the water is cleansing not just the physical body, but your very soul of all guilt, stain, and imperfection, leaving that which is strong, good, and richly alive...When all is in readiness and you are prepared, go to the darkened ritual area and sit near the altar...Meditate for a while that this, to our ancestors, was the "low part" of the year...The harvest was long past, the days were cold and short...It was, in essence, the Season of Death...for all things must die...Yet new life must spring from death, as life becomes incarnate once more...And this festival was the time of first rebirth...Light one candle, and then the other, saying: THE DARKNESS OF THE SEASON SHALL BE BROKEN AND NEW LIFE BE BORN ONCE AGAIN. Take the two candles, one in each hand, and go to the south side of the darkened room, and hold them out in salute to the deities...Repeat this to the west, the north, and the east...Replace the candles on the altar and say: IN THIS, THE SEASON OF THE WHITE GODDESS DO I CELEBRATE THE FESTIVAL OF YULE, THE REBIRTH OF THE SUN, AND OF LIFE FOR THE COMING YEAR. THIS ETERNAL CYCLE DO I MARK HERE. Fire up all the decorative lights at this time, and return to your place before the altar...Sit and meditate briefly...Hold your arms out over the altar, crossed, and say: I DO GIVE GREETING TO THE GOD OF THE FORESTS WHO DOES RULE IN THIS SEASON. I DO GIVE GREETING TO THE LOVELY GODDESS BY WHOSE BLESSINGS AND GRACE SHALL LIFE ALWAYS BE BORN AGAIN. Take the wrapped incense package in both hands and stand, holding it up before you: THIS SYMBOLIC GIFT I DEDICATE TO YOU, O ANCIENT ONES! Pause thus for the space of thirteen heartbeats, then sit, unwrap the package, and light the incense, placing  it in a brazier or bowl on the altar...At this time you may add singing or playing of seasonal music, reading of poetry, etc...At a convenient time you should partake of the food and wine...Place it on the altar and, holding your right hand over it in an attitude of blessing, invoke: BLESS ME, O LADY AND GOD OF THE WILDS, AND BLESS THIS FOOD, WHICH HAS BEEN YOUR GIFT TO US ALL. Afterwards you may rest, meditate, or continue your own additions to the rite...When at last you feel the ritual should close, hold your arms out over the altar, crossed, and say: LOVELY GODDESS AND LAUGHING GOD, I DO THANK YOU FOR BEING, IN SPIRIT, HERE WITH ME. BLESSED BE! Put out the candles, saying: THE RITE IS ENDED. Let the decorative lights burn for the rest of the evening...........

Blessed Be!...It seems we just started summer and now its almost over...I hope your summer was one of joy, happiness, and peace...As for me I am looking forward to a wonderful fall when the air turns crisp and we don't have to live in air conditioned boxes!...The time is drawing near for all types of cleansings so we can make way for new energy to come into our lives...The following is a beautiful poem that I found and I wish to pass it on to everyone...When you think of yourself, think of this poem... Blessed Be! ...We are now coming upon a truly magickal time of the year... MIDSUMMER'S EVE OR LITHA, JUNE 21ST , is also the Summer Solstice - the longest day of the year!...The Fairies are out and about in full force and this is the time to ask for favors...Just be careful to leave something sweet for them when you ask or it will backfire on you!...It is also a great time to make a wreath for Summer Solstice and hang it high over your altar...Decorate it with different color feathers and gold ribbon and gold sparkles...Feathers are a favorite item with the Fairies...Red= physical vitality...Blue= mental abilities, peace and protection...Yellow= cheerfulness and mental alertness as well as prosperity...Green=prosperity, growth, and health...Brown= stability and respect...Black=mystical wisdom that comes with true spiritual initiation... Peacock feathers gives protection against the "evil eye" ...One of the most powerful charms is the Witches' Ladder...To make a Witches' Ladder you need a yard of yarn of each color, white, red, and black...nine feathers in different colors...Arrange an altar and cast a Circle...Tie the three ends together in a knot...Then begin braiding them together, chanting as you braid:  YARN OF RED, BLACK, AND  WHITE, WORK YOUR MAGIC SPELL THIS NIGHT...Repeat this chant over and over again until the entire length of yarn has been braided...Tie a knot in the end...Then starting about a foot from the beginning of the braid, tie the first feather with a knot around its base, saying (for a green feather):  WITH THIS FEATHER AND THIS STRING, PROSPERITY THIS CHARM WILL BRING...When all nine feathers have been tied into the cord as evenly spaced as possible, tie the ends of the cord together to form a circle...Then pass it through the candle flameand incense smoke, and sprinkle it with salt and water with words such as:  IN THE NAMES OF THE GODDESSES AND THE GOD, BY AIR, EARTH, FIRE, AND WATER, I CONSECRATE THIS CHARM, OF FEATHERS NINE AND CORD OF THREE, AS I WILL, SO MOTE IT BE...Then hang the Witches' Ladder high in your house, where it will not be seen by others, but where you will see it everyday......... I will close by sending you a WILLPOWER SPELL To know, to will, to dare, to be silent are the four corners of the Witch's pyramid...Fire is the element that summons will and summer is its corresponding season...A fire spell is especially fortuitous now, as this is the feast day of Vesta, the hearth flame...To begin this spell you need to spend time reflecting on what you wish to manifest...Ask yourself what you need to do in the physical world to accomplish your aim...When you feel certain of what you need to do, build a sacred fire...Give an offering to the spirits of fire...Any of the following will do:  allspice, basil, clove, dill, ginger, or frankincense...When the offering is burnt away, say:  FIERY SPIRITS OF THE SOUTH LANDS, BURN AWAY MY LAZY WAYS...LIGHT MY WILL WITH YOUR SURE FLAMES...Visualize the fire's flames burning away your excuses and lack of energy...Then visualize the flames lighting the fire in your belly that won't allow you to quit until you've achieved your aims...Thank the fire spirits for their aid... Happy Beltane!...In this newsletter I'm sending you my Blessing and some very powerful spells to use when you need to...

1. PROTECTION FROM PEOPLE WHO WISH YOU HARM

TIME:   WANING TUESDAY, SATURN HOUR

TOOLS:   THREE BLUE CANDLES, LOTUS OIL, PROTECTION INCENSE, NINE STRAWS FROM A WITCH'S BROOM,

TWENTY SEVEN NAVY BEANS, THREE PINCHES OF BASIL AND ONE RED MOJO BAG...

INSTRUCTIONS: A noint the candles with Lotus oil.  Light the candles and the incense. 

Visualize a thick, blue aura around yourself protecting you from any harm.  Break the straws from the broom into small pieces.  Place the straw, beans, and basil into the red mojo.  Pass the mojo through the incense smoke while reciting the incantation.  Keep the mojo with you at all times.  Light the blue candles and recite the incantation whenever you feel danger.

INCANTATION: BEAN, BASIL, AND BROOM, MY ENEMIES ARE ENTOMBED. THEY'RE POWERLESS AND WEAK, THEY HAVE NO VOICE TO SPEAK. I AM SAFE AND STRONG, FROM THOSE WHO WISH ME WRONG. PROTECTION IN THE SACK, FROM ENEMY ATTACK. SO MOTE IT BE.

TO REPEL AND KEEP AWAY NEGATIVE ENERGY

TIME:   WANING SATURDAY, SATURN HOUR

TOOLS :  ONE GRAY CANDLE AND JINX REMOVING OIL

INSTRUCTIONS:  Place three drops of Jinx Removing oil on the top of the candle.  Light the candle and recite the incantation.  From that time forward, any time a negative energy is sensed or bad luck is experienced, light the candle and recite the incantation. 

INCANTATION: GHOST OF GRAY THAT WHIRL ABOUT, SEEK THE SENDER OF EVIL AND DOUBT. REPEL AND FORBID THE ENERGY TO CROSS, MY PATH IS WINNING AND NEVER AT LOSS. SO MOTE IT BE.

"Blessed Be!" ...We are now in The Seed Moon in the month of April...Rituals for planting in general, rituals for good crop growth and for good weather magick...Rituals for flowers and for things of beaurty...Rituals for all kinds of travel...Rituals to banish fear and sadness... Rituals for new beginnings ...

Rituals for proper balance, good decisions, and for truth...Rituals to dispel old and new anger, to dispel problems of all kinds, and to release issues that involve hate...Rituals for progress and movement toward goals..........This is a time to plant seeds, reconcile differences, focus on health issues, rebirth, change, life begins, the Goddess awakens and spreads fertility...Time of dedication and purpose...Choose an indoor plant you wish to grow from either a seed or small rooting...Choose the plant that best represents what you desire to start for the year...........

Example:  Peppermint for prosperity or an aloe vera for healing...Write an incantation for your own self-growth...Choose the right candle, oil, and incense...Burn the incantation and bury the ashes in the soil of your new plant...As the plant grows, so will your wish!........................We are coming upon the time of the season when we see and hear the faeries...Set up a small faery alter either outside or in your home...If you ask them for something, you must leave something sweet for them like honey or sweet cakes...They love bells, feathers, sea shells, flowers and crystals...Select a personal faery stone by asking the faeries to show it to you...You will know the right one as soon as you see it ...Stones with natural holes in them are magickal...Keep this stone on your person...Well, thats all for now...
